2013 Domaine Parent Bourgogne Rouge 98
Pinot Noir, Pommard Burgundy FRA
A family run domaine, from the heart of Pommard. Sisters Anne and Catherine represent the 12th generation, perpetuating a family tradition dating back to the 17th century. With 10 hectares of vineyards featuring clay-limestone soils, allowing the Bourgogne rouge to express its power and elegance.
An earthy red berry fruit nose exhibits hints of savouriness. There is good intensity to the attractively precise and vibrant flavors that display only a hint of finishing rusticity.
2014 Daniel Chotard Sancerre Rouge ‘Le Chant de l’Archet’ 85
Pinot Noir, Loir Valley FRA
Pinot Noir vines planted at the top of the hill on clay soils. These vines are west facing, catching the afternoon sun. In Burgundy the best plots are mostly East facing so they don’t get the warmer afternoon sunshine but as this vineyard is at the top of the hill it gets lots of wind the vines love the warmer slops. That wind also keeps the grapes ‘fresh’, retaining acidity. Fermented in open tanks using the ‘Remontage technique’ (Taking wine from the bottom of the ferment and wetting the cap) and then aged in barrel for one year, blend of New and Old. This wine is amazing value vs Burgundy Pinot Noir. Don’t be fooled by the fact its labelled Sancerre Rouge…
